5B documentary screening at 2pm on October 27
Please join us in the Alliance Room of the First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton to see this story of courage and compassion from San Francisco General Hospital’s Ward 5B, the United States’ first dedicated AIDS unit. There the nurses, caregivers, medical staff, and community workers created care practices based in humanity and holistic well-being during a time of great uncertainty.
The documentary was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May, 2019, where it won a Grand Prix Award. Guy Lodge, in his ‘Variety ‘ review, stated “In 5B, the human spirit is bigger than hate and Hallmark alike.”
Finding that the only way to see the film in this area was to screen it ourselves, We have arranged this event, which is open to the public, through FUUSN’s Adult Education program. There will be an informal reception following.
