Musings

Some of you may recall that a group of us attended the first Europäischer Unitariertag (European Unitarians Together, or EUT) in 2017. The FUUSN choir provided music for the conference in Ulm, Germany. The second EUT is being held this June in Berlin, and I have been (somewhat unexpectedly) invited to attend and to help with the music. And while we are not this time organizing a big tour of FUUSN members, of course the organizers of the EUT would love to see some of us from across the pond attend the conference. Please see their invitation below, and here is the link to register: https://eut-2019.org/en/ Don’t hesitate to ask me any questions about this exciting opportunity. Welcome to EUT!

As representatives of the International Council of Unitarians and Universalists (ICUU) we are delighted to participate in European Unitarians Together (EUT) once again.

This meeting of Unitarians, Unitarian Universalists, Free Religious and Humanists from different parts of Europe is hosted by two of our member organizations: the Unitarier – Religionsgemeinschaft freien Glaubens (URFG) and the European Unitarian Universalists (EUU).

In many ways the event resembles one of our emerging members – new, enthusiastic and fresh, and at the same time working hard to establish its footing in our global Unitarian family. We cherish your collaboration and mutual support here in Europe. In our worldwide experience in helping emerging Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist groups, we know how important it is to come together, exchange ideas, and get to know each other. Our various faith traditions have tremendous common ground. At the same time our different cultural practices require each one of us to live our religion by honouring the ‘other’. We acknowledge that this is not always easy. But we have found that it is extremely rewarding.

Berlin holds special meaning for our extended community. The International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF) held its World Congress of Free Christianity and Religious Progress here in 1910.

Berlin is also home to the Unitarian Church in Berlin, founded in 1948. On behalf of the ICUU, we are looking forward to seeing you in Berlin!
