October: Reckoning
The growth that comes from change can only be completed if we take time to let the lessons of our lives sink in. Time to make amends, to really take stock of the impact of our choices on ourselves and those around us, as well as time to give thanks and to celebrate the real growth we have accomplished. In our fast-moving, results-oriented culture we often rush past the time of reckoning, when things are messy and uncomfortable. How might we make space in our spiritual lives for sitting in complexity and listening for its lessons?
The story of Jonah gives us an opportunity to consider what we are called to do, what we try to avoid, and what it means to give thanks.
