Our Special Collection on May 19 will benefit the Waltham Community Day Center.
Our Kit Ryan’s emails detail some of the health issues she encounters with guests. It is impossible to live outside and have dry clean socks and healthy feet. What homeless guests are grateful for are a welcoming place to be with people. They enjoy lunch and a place to be out of the elements. Guests can find assistance with applying for various benefits, including health insurance, food stamps, and housing. Volunteer nurses consult on physical issues and make referrals if necessary. Many efforts are designed by both the Director and the case manager to stabilize each guest’s situation, so progress toward recovery, jobs, and housing can be realized. Success stories are celebrated, but many may take a while to realize.
On May 19 I will tell the story of how one guest has found the center during part of our service. Please bring your checkbooks and make checks out to Waltham Community Day Center.
