The FUUSN Economic and Racial Justice Task Force and Racial Justice Ministry cordially invite you to a showing of “Segregated by Design,” a 17- minute film narrated by Richard Rothstein that examines the little-known history of how our federal, state and local governments unconstitutionally segregated every major metropolitan area in America through law and policy. The effects of this unlawful segregation have compounded across the generations and can be readily observed today.
Please join us for a free screening of the film, followed by a short discussion of how zoning and development in Newton provides us with opportunities to work toward racial and economic justice in our community. We will be joined by a representative of the Newton Interfaith Housing Coalition (NICHE), who will introduce us to their work and answer questions.
This event is open to FUUSN members and friends and will take place by Zoom on Monday, June 20, from 7:00 to 8:00. To register and receive the Zoom link, go to https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYsd-uhqjsvG9Tj2d3d-A1D3WBu3p6iPfW1
Those who cannot attend are welcome to watch the film on their own, which is available at www.segregatedbydesign.com. Depending on interest, we may schedule additional showings/discussions on Zoom and/or in-person at FUUSN.
