Opportunities for involvement in the FUUSN Music Program include membership in various groups, all of which are open to everyone regardless of experience.

Sanctuary Choir

The Sanctuary Choir sings in the morning service most Sundays; they rehearse on Wednesday nights, 7:30-9pm in the Chapel. The Choir is open to all singers regardless of experience. The Choir presents two Music Sundays each year (pictured: Sources, a UU Cantata by Jason Shelton, 2015).

FUUSN Musicians Tour

35 musicians from FUUSN provided music for the Europäischer Unitariertag in Ulm in June of 2017. The choir and instrumentalists also performed in Frankfurt, Freising, and Stuttgart.

Family Choir  

The FUUSN Family Choir is made up of children and their families, singing and having fun together. The Family Choir will meet on some Sundays at 9:45am to learn a song which they will sing in that morning’s service. Easy-peasy! Our first song will be “Who Did Swallow Jonah?” on October 2.

FUUSN Band

The FUUSN Band welcomes any and all pop/rock/folk players, on banjo, mando, guitar, sax, flute, keyboards, drums, bass, etc.  They rehearse as needed. And sometimes they wing it. (Pictured here: the FUUSN Band playing with the Myrtle Baptist Band)

JourneySongs

JourneySongs is a hospice choir founded at FUUSN; they rehearse twice a month on Sunday afternoons. www.journeysongs.org

CreationDance

Since 2005, FUUSN has its own sacred dance company in residence, CreationDance, which creates meaningful dances contributing to several services, community celebrations, and performances throughout the year. CreationDance is a graceful ambassador of FUUSN by bringing people to the FUUSN services, and by dancing in a few other churches and venues in New England and in France as well.  They rehearse on Saturday afternoons. https://www.facebook.com/CreationDanceCompany/

Evening Song

Evening Song at FUUSN, on the first Sunday of each month, is designed specifically for the diversity of spirit and thoughtful meditation that is First Unitarian Universalist Society in Newton, with music and poetry chosen especially to fit FUUSN’s monthly theme. FUUSN’s Evening Song is just half an hour—a way to set aside the noise and stress of daily life; to spend some time in stillness and mystery. The music is performed by Vermilion: Amy LeClair, alto and director; Courtney Elf Rowe, soprano; Ethan Rowe, tenor; and Julian Cole, bass. The poetry is chosen by FUUSN’s own Catherine Morocco, Alice Wood, Carol Siemering, and Elli Crocker. Contact Amy LeClair with any questions! Vermilion Evening Song

Chimers and ad hoc groups

Develop a new skill set by joining the chimers who play the Tower Bells before and after each Sunday service.
