The Racial Justice Ministry Steering Committee is excited to announce the dates for our next Living the Pledge to End Racism workshop. If you haven’t done the workshop yet, please consider joining with fellow FUUSNites for this transformative program. Repeaters are also welcome.
Uncovering the history, institutions and internal bias associated with racism is a journey, knowingly or not, that we are all on. In the previous Living the Pledge sessions we have welcomed FUUSN members who are new to this journey and others who have been exploring its depth for years. Wherever you are on this journey we invite you to join us this Fall.
Our Pledge to End Racism Workshop was created by members of the Richmond, VA, UU congregation, and is based on The Birmingham (Alabama) Pledge. The Pledge is based on the premise that fighting racism is challenging, and it requires tools adequate to set a new standard in resistance to a long- entrenched social disease.3
For our next session, we will hold workshops via Zoom. The next 6 session workshop will be on Thursdays from 4:00 to 6:00, beginning October 13th and continuing on the following five Thursdays: 10/20, 10/27, 11/10, 11/17 and 12/1. If you’re interested in attending, please hold these dates on your calendar. Each session will run from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM and will be led by Barbara Deck and RoseAnn Murray with assistance from the Racial Justice Ministry.
Unlike previous workshops which consisted of 3 breakout small groups, this workshop will be a single group limited to 8 participants total to allow for rich interaction among participants.
The Racial Justice Ministry team believe that the work to transform us into a more welcoming and diverse congregation will begin with each of us joining in these workshops. Due to the limited space in the workshop, the Racial Justice Ministry will survey the pool of those interested and determine a mix of participants to achieve as much diversity as possible. If you wish to be considered for this workshop please review the following questions and send your answers and name to Bill Holland (wm.holland@gmail.com ) as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, September 30:
1. Can you commit to being present for all six modules?
2. Why do you want to participate in this program, and how do you imagine it will influence your work/ participation/ life at FUUSN?”
Once we hear from you we will follow up shortly thereafter.
Please join in this opportunity for All of Us to create an environment where FUUSN is reaching toward the highest intentions of our UU principles.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Barbara Deck (badeck1@gmail.com), Christine Lookner (cwlookner@gmail.com), or me wm.holland@gmail.com).
In Partnership,
Bill Holland
