The Operations Council along with FUUSN staff and our Board of Trustees have continued to monitor the impact of the Omicron variant since our decision to return to virtual services at the end of December. The number of infections and both the incidence and positivity rates remain extremely high in Newton as well as Middlesex County and all of Massachusetts. There are, however, some promising signs that the current surge may soon abate. Many public health experts believe that we have seen the peak of the Omicron spike and that over the next several weeks infections will decline.

We believe that the safest course of action at this stage is to wait and monitor the metrics for another couple of weeks to see whether we are truly on the downside of the Omicron spike. Thus, at this time, we will continue virtual services and hope to return to in-person services in late February/early March assuming the decline in infections makes this safe.
