Dear FUUSN Members:
The 2023 Nominating Committee is preparing a slate of candidates for open FUUSN leadership positions for 2023-2024. All positions are described below. We welcome nominations for the open positions. Nominees must be FUUSN members. The election will be held at our Annual Meeting on June 11, 2023.
If you are interested in serving (or continuing to serve) in one of these open positions, or know someone who you feel would be a good candidate, please send those nominations to the Nominating Committee at NomCom@fuusn.org. The formal period for submitting nominations is March 1 to April 1, 2023.
Board of Trustees (3-year term)
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the FUUSN, proactively planning (maintaining focus on mission, purpose and vision), dialoguing with congregants and staff regarding necessary programs, managing policies and changes in governance, and stewarding assets. The seven-person Board (one of High School age) works collaboratively with the Minister, and oversees the Operations Council, Personnel Policy Committee, the Board of Investments, and any other Board appointed committees. The Board of Trustees governs with an emphasis on outward vision and strategic leadership and ensures that all actions are consistent with FUUSN’s purpose and values. Members of the Board of Trustees serve for three years and are limited to two terms.

Trustee of High School Age (1-year term)
The Trustee of High School Age has the same responsibilities as adult Trustees. The Board of Trustees prefers that this position be shared by two people. The Trustee of High School Age serves for one year and is limited to two terms.
One or two positions will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Operations Council Members (3-year term)
The Operations Council Members are accountable to the Board of Trustees through the various reporting and policy documents of FUUSN, manage and oversee day-to-day operational issues and committees at FUUSN partnering with staff. Members of the Operations Council serve for three years and are not subject to term limits.
Two positions will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Treasurer (1-year term)
The Treasurer writes checks, keeps accurate account of all property, receipts, expenditures, and of all the indebtedness of FUUSN. They serve on the Operations Council and attend Finance Committee meetings. They prepare the Treasurer’s report twice a year for the Board of Trustees and the Operations Council. The Treasurer serves for one year and is not subject to term limits.
One position will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Assistant Treasurers (1-year term)
The Assistant Treasurers provide backup to the Treasurer for check signing and runs deposits to the bank in the Treasurer’s absence. The Assistant Treasurers serve for one year and are not subject to term limits.
Two positions will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Board of Investment (3-year term)
The Board of Investment holds, invests, and manages the funds entrusted to it by donors to the Society, by the Board of Trustees and by the Treasurer of the Society. The members of the Board of Investment are fiduciaries of FUUSN’s Unrestricted and Restricted Endowment Funds, as well as of other non-Endowment funds held on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Treasurer. The Board of Investment reports quarterly to the Board of Trustees and annually to the Congregational Annual Meeting. The three members of the Board of Investment serve for three years and are limited to two terms.
One position will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Moderator (1-year term)
The Moderator presides at the Annual Meeting and any special meetings of the general membership. The Moderator appoints the Nominating Committee. This position requires a good understanding of the workings of FUUSN and Robert’s Rules governing meetings. The Moderator must be patient and have the ability to support constructive discussions among people with differing opinions. The Moderator serves for one year and is not subject to term limits.

Clerk for the Board (1-year term)
The Clerk for the Board attends meetings of the FUUSN Board of Trustees as well as FUUSN’s Annual Meeting. The Clerk takes minutes reflecting an accurate record of the meetings and posts minutes on the FUUSN website so they are available to the congregation. The Clerk of the Board serves for one year and is not subject to term limits.
One position will be on the slate at the Annual Meeting.
Assistant Clerk/Clerk of Council (1-year term)
The Assistant Cerk/Clerk of Council takes minutes at monthly Operations Council meetings and acts as Clerk in the Clerk’s absence. The Assistant Clerk posts minutes on the FUUSN website so they are available to the congregation. The Assistant Clerk serves for one year and is not subject to term limits.

Delegates to the UU Urban Ministry (1-year term)
The Delegates to UU Urban Ministry serve youth and survivors of domestic violence, as well as provide social justice and cultural programming in Roxbury. Delegates keep up to date on the UUUM, liaise between FUUSN and the UUUM, and support the UUUM mission by promotion and fundraising activities as well as volunteering. The three Delegates to the UU Urban Ministry serve for one year and are not subject to term limits.
